Application of silicone potting adhesive in LED driving power supply

Absrtact: With the rapid development of LED industry, there are higher and higher requirements for the power quality and operation stability of the core components of LED. LED power protection and heat dissipation are crucial, which will directly affect the service life of LED. In this paper, the selection of LED power protection materials and the application of silicone materials in LED power supply are comprehensively summarized, and the advantages of silicone potting adhesive as an ideal power protection material in application are analyzed in detail.

Abstract: The rapid development of LED industry has brought more requirements about the quality of the key component and the operational stability. Thus the protection of LED power supply、the heat dissipating , etc has become more important because it would directly affect the LED service life. While stating the selection of power supply material, this paper also fully concludes the application of silicone rubber which was used in LED power supply. Additionally, a detailed analysis of advantages why silicone potting material is an ideal material for power protection has been shown.

0 Introduction

Since 2009, the central and local governments at all levels have actively promoted the implementation of the "Ten Cities, Ten Thousand Lights" plan, and China's LED street light industry has begun to flourish. By the end of 2009, the number of LED street lamps (tunnel lamps) installed in China had reached 250,000. In 2011, the number of LED street lamps installed reached 500,000. By the end of 2013, only Guangdong Province had 1.1 million LED street lamps. The use of LED street lamps has continued to grow rapidly. High power LED lighting equipment is mainly composed of LED light source, driving power supply, radiator and other components. The driving power supply needs to convert 110V or 220V AC mains power into specific voltage and current through the power supply device during operation, and the impact of current during each startup will cause large losses to power supply components.

At the same time, high-power LED driver power needs to work continuously in a complex outdoor environment, and its stability and reliability need to be affected by many factors, such as high cold, high temperature, high humidity, lightning strike, corrosion, grid voltage fluctuation, etc. Therefore, the quality stability of the driving power supply is a short board for the life of high-power LED lighting equipment, which will be the bottleneck for the large-scale promotion of most high-power LED lighting in the industry, and also a key factor restricting the development of LED lighting industry.
